You'll need:
See a sample PDF (a fictional applicant's answers, set out the way yours will be)
Enter the details exactly as on your DS-160. They are used once, to open it on the consular website (CEAC), and then deleted.
CEAC gives it to you when you submit: your name, photo, Application ID and a barcode, which you take to the interview. It doesn't list your answers. To print it again, use CEAC's own site with the same details. This tool doesn't fetch it.
Everything you entered, page by page: travel, family, work, education and the rest. This tool reads them back from CEAC and shows them section by section, with a PDF to keep.
The consular officer may ask about anything on your DS-160. Read your answers again so what you say matches what you wrote.
A new visa, a renewal or a family member's form asks much the same questions. Start from what you wrote last time.
Send the PDF to whoever is helping you, so they see exactly what you submitted.
CEAC doesn't keep a submitted DS-160 forever. A PDF of your answers stays with you.
Your Application ID, location, surname, year of birth and security answer, as on your DS-160.
We open your DS-160 on CEAC and read every answer CEAC shows. If CEAC asks for a security code, you type it here.
Your answers appear on this page, free. Enter your email to download them as a PDF.
Nothing is signed or submitted. Your Application ID and your interview booking stay as they are.
CEAC shows a submitted DS-160's answers only by making a new, unsigned copy of it under your details. We read the copy. It lapses unless someone uses it.
What you type is used to open the DS-160 and then deleted. The answers we read are kept for 7 days, for this page and your PDF, and then deleted.
CEAC's copy leaves out the security and background questions, the trip and the address in the U.S., and parts of the work and travel history. They are listed with your result.

Yes. With your Application ID, surname, year of birth and security answer, this tool reads your submitted answers back from CEAC and shows them on the page, with a PDF to download. Your submitted DS-160 isn't changed.
No. The confirmation page is the one-page sheet with the barcode that you take to the interview; you can print it again from CEAC's own site. This tool gives you the answers themselves, which the confirmation page doesn't show.
Not without it: CEAC finds a DS-160 only by its Application ID. It's on your confirmation page, and in the email of it if you had CEAC send you one. If you can't find it, you'll need to fill in a new DS-160.
Often, but not always. CEAC archives a DS-160 about a month after it was last used and restores it when asked, which takes about 15 minutes: if we tell you it's being restored, try again then. Much older ones may be gone: we've seen CEAC no longer have one about 10 months old.
CEAC asks the security question you chose when you started the DS-160, and the answer has to match. If it doesn't, we show you the question CEAC asked, which may jog your memory. Without the right answer, CEAC won't open the DS-160.
Yes. Seeing your answers is free and needs no account. The PDF is free too: we ask for your email before the download, and email you updates only if you tick the box for them.
